Mike and his partner, Gene Johnson, co-founded HMC Financial Corporation, a residential real estate mortgage company, in Sioux Falls, SD, in 1986. With the success of that business, they purchased a bank in Gary, SD, in 1988, with Mike serving as President. In 1992 they bought and merged with a bank in Madison, SD, and subsequently opened their main operating branch in Sioux Falls. Mike remained President and CEO of Security Bank and Security Mortgage Corporation as it grew to employ over 90 people and became one of South Dakota's largest real estate lenders and servicers while receiving the "The Local Best" award for real estate lending. The bank was sold in 2006.
Mike is currently the managing partner of a pheasant lodge in South Dakota where he holds an annual fundraising event for Make-A-Wish. He and his wife, Glenda, have two adult daughters. In their leisure time they enjoy travel, golf and boating.
