Ira Schwarzwald is the Director, Credit for Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, Inc., a leading international mining company based in Phoenix, AZ and one of the world's leading producers of copper, gold and molybdenum. He has been with Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc, formerly known as Phelps Dodge since 1988, and is responsible for all credit, collections, accounts receivable and cash management for the corporation. Ira has been involved in credit, collections, accounts receivable, cash management and various financial activities for over 30 years and has held various management positions at Freeport and with Phoenix Coca-Cola Bottling Group and Star of India Fashions. He began his career with General Electric Credit Corporation (now GE Capital) in their management development program.
Ira is a graduate of Arizona State University (B.S. - Finance, '77) and has attended the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). He is a Certified Credit Administrator and holds a Certified Community College Teaching Certificate. He is currently a member of several credit and mining organizations, including the National Primary Copper & Aluminum Trade Credit Group since 1990, and is a longtime member of NACM of Arizona and has served on numerous committees and various board roles. Ira is also an instructor with the Arizona Institute of Credit and has taught credit and business courses for Rio Salado Community College.
A long-time supporter of United Way and other local organizations, he is a regular participant in the Freeport-McMoRan Helps Volunteer Program and gives generously of his time.
Ira currently chairs the Investment/Risk Management (ALCO) and Compensation Committee and is a member of the Executive Loan, Audit and Advisory Committee at Gateway Bank.
