James Christensen has worked in the banking industry for 21 years, most of which was spent in commercial lending and management. Beginning in commercial lending, James quickly developed a profitable portfolio. As his banking career progressed he joined First Kansas Bank and Trust in 1996, and was named President in March 1997, managing four locations and 42 employees. First Kansas was one of the top performers in their peer group as measured by ROE for multiple years. Upon moving to Mesa in 1998, he began commuting to Kansas on alternating weeks, and managing his bank remotely from Arizona the rest of the time. James resigned in 2007 to become President & CEO of Gateway Commercial Bank .
James grew up in the Midwest and is a graduate of Baker University (B.S. - Finance, 86). He is active in the community. James has served on the Board (including a term as President) and several committees at Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Mesa. He also served on the Board of the Southwest Johnson County Economic Development Council, Gardner Historical Society and several other community boards.
James and his wife, Anita, have two daughters. In their leisure time they enjoy travel, golf, biking and most outdoor activities.
