James has worked in the banking industry for 25 years. He was President of a community bank in Kansas for a decade before getting involved with the formation of Gateway Bank in 2007 where he serves as President and Chief Executive Officer.
Gateway is The Hometown Bank in Mesa, Arizona. The bank opened in December 2007 near Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport. The bank has grown to $73MM in total assets and was profitable in its third year of operations. Gateway is a full service bank with an emphasis on small business lending.
James grew up in the Midwest and is a graduate of Baker University. He is very active in the local community and has served on the board and several committees at Love of Christ Lutheran Church and taught Junior Achievement. He is currently the Treasurer of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Community Depository Advisory Board for the San Francisco Federal Reserve, a member of the Economic Development Committee at Easy Valley Partnership and a member of The Mesa Rotary Club.
James and his wife, Anita, have two daughters and keep busy with all of their musical, artistic and sporting activities.
